Eddie Brewer, Jr. Obituary

Eddie Brewer, Jr., 75, of Hickory, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, at the Charles George VA Medical Center Hospice Unit in Asheville, North Carolina.

Eddie was born on May 29, 1950, in Asheville, North Carolina, to the late Eddie and Eliza Brewer. He loved the Lord and joined the church at an early age, where he was baptized by his uncle, the late Rev. B. F. Brewer, founding pastor of Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Asheville City Schools and graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1968.

Following graduation, Eddie enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served proudly and honorably during the Vietnam War era. He received numerous commendations for his bravery and leadership. His unwavering commitment to his country was a true source of inspiration to all who knew him.

After his distinguished military service, Eddie moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he became a police officer and pledged to serve and protect his community. He was known as a man of integrity and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on those he served and worked with.

Eddie was also employed with Piedmont Airlines and US Airways for 30 years, as well as Pelton & Crane for 10 years. Throughout his career, he was recognized for his meticulous nature, dedication, and strong work ethic.

In his 75 years, Eddie was many things to many people — a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His heart was like gold, and he lived selflessly, always striving to bring happiness and support to others.

Following retirement, Eddie and the love of his life, his wife Deborah Davidson-Brewer, made their home in Hickory, North Carolina. There, he was known among neighbors and friends as a noble man of integrity who loved his neighborhood family and was a valued asset to his community.

When not helping others, Eddie enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling, as well as gardening, landscaping, and carpentry. He loved the Lord, remained active in his church, and was a faithful member of the 2nd Ward Men’s Breakfast Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Peggy Dunlap Griffin, Barbara Godwin, and Patricia Robinson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Deborah Brewer; sisters Sarah Caldwell and Carol Willis of Asheville, North Carolina, and Melinda Pittman (Linwood) of Georgia; brothers-in-law William and Timothy Davidson of Swannanoa, North Carolina; sisters-in-law Karen Cook (Anthony) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Kokeeta Davidson of Swannanoa, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
